Many of the Erie hospital trips in the
1st quarter were canceled due the weather,
Erie had a record snow fall this year.
During the 2nd quarter many of those trips
were rescheduled and transportation got
back to normal.
During the March Roadrunner meeting,
a $500 check from the Grange was
presented by Emerson Klingensmith. He
is a member of the Grange and was very
instrumental in getting the donation. This
is Emerson’s good news, a week later came
the bad news. Emerson had an accident,
using a torch to cut off an auto spring, he
caught his left pant leg on fire. Before he
was able to put out the flame, he badly
burned his left leg, side, butt, and left arm.
He was rushed to the West Penn Hospital
MEMBERSHIP MESSAGE
Brother Nobles, we all agree that we
need to enhance our ranks. Now is the
time for us to put our thoughts into
action. Our Ceremonial is coming up on
June 23 and we should all work toward
making this day a life changing event for
our Brethren.
If you know of a Brother Mason that is
not a Shriner, reach out to him and ask if
he is interested. There is no need to give
a ‘hard sell.’ our reputation precedes us
and it only takes a bit of encouragement.
I’m one of those members who was a
Mason for thirty years before I became a
Noble. What a mistake! I kept thinking I
would get around to joining but year after
year I kept putting it off. It took a call
from a Brother that made me step up and
join. You can be that Brother that makes
that difference.
You should attend your Blue Lodge
meetings and your other affiliated bodies.

Emerson in our prayers.
Make it known that you are a Shriner and
mention that our Ceremonial is coming up.
Be available in the social hall for questions
after these meeting and explain our
values. Let them know that the
Ceremonial is open to the new Nobles and
their families. We will have a light dinner
and dancing followed by a ‘Night at the
Movies’ with ‘Drive in Snacks.’
However, you must remember that
signing a new members petition is not the
end of your responsibilities. You must
accompany these brothers in their journey.
Make introductions, give explanations and
make them comfortable not only on
Ceremonial day but in the upcoming
months. Help them find a unit, club or
caravan that is a good fit for them to join.
Keep in mind at the ceremonial that you
should meet the new Noble’s families and
introduce them to the other Nobles and
their families.
The many winter trips on salty and
muddy roads, had its toll on both inside
and outside of the vans. Many of the
country patients have muddy drive-
ways and mud is tracked into the vans.
Thanks to driver Ron Plesh, he was able
to get a discounted deal to get all three
vans washed and detailed. They all look
great again, late in April they will be
moved from the pavilion to the upper
parking lot.
Last year several drivers turned 80
and are no longer able to drive with
patients in the van. They are now
companions only. Good news several
new Roadrunners are now trying to take
3 trips to become a primary drivers.
We drive so kids can!
We must make them feel at home and
have them returning to our events and
facilities to enjoy our events. You must
remember that there is no honor in being
a first line signer if that new Noble
decides a year or two later that he no
longer sees value in being a Noble. Make
them comfortable and help them realize
that they are a part of our big family.
Think of that one Brother that you can
call, pick up that phone right now. Do
him a favor and help make him a Shriner.
